“The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power.” -Malcolm X

My dear friends, there is a great illusion taking place right in front of our eyes. It’s the greatest magic trick of our lifetimes. The mass media, owned by the ruling classes, are operating a cover-up of the heist of our invaluable democracy as well as the wealth of the bottom 90 per cent- over $50 trillion over the last 44 years- transferred up to the top 10 per cent. But maybe even more sinister, this illusion includes the pilfering of our minds. It’s been happening slowly over time and has become so sophisticated and insidious that many of us don’t even realise it’s happening.

Welcome to 1984- oops, I mean 2026! We’re in a time when a tyrant can bomb 7 different countries in a year and still be called “a man of peace” worthy of peace prizes by many news outlets. The ruling class, who see democracy as a threat to their wealth and status, fully grasp the power of persuasion. And they know how to wield it. They are waging a full-blown war against the truth and press freedoms in real time.

I mention all of this because we are no longer in a time of business as usual. The world order is being turned completely on its head, and the concern, disillusionment, and fear that have followed are very real. I plan to do whatever I can to be of service in these unprecedented times. And right now, one of my deepest concerns, even more than our ruler’s naked power grabs, authoritarian imperial agendas, and blatant disregard for humanity, is that our media’s response to it all is severely harming our ability to fully understand what’s happening so that we have the awareness and insight to fight back.

Our Western mass media (especially the American media)- including corporate and social media- have become well-coordinated censorship and propaganda influence machines. Many stories and events are being intentionally ignored. There’s cowering coverage for certain factions, no coverage at all for others, empathy for certain communities, and indifference or disregard for others. Often, coverage willfully downplays lies, uses structured narratives and deceptive framing.

Making matters worse is the fact that the FCC, under the current regime, has been using its regulatory powers to impose censorship and control across network TV in favour of itself.

All of these tactics are designed to mislead, manipulate, and shape viewers and readers’ beliefs, in service of the agenda of the ruling class who own them. We are slowly being conditioned to see cruelty and dehumanisation as normal, and to begin accepting the unacceptable. Constitutionally protected, non-violent free speech is being redefined as terrorism, agitation, or Anti-Americanism which ironically, is as American as the founding of the country itself. And it’s a real danger to us all. Unfortunately, though this “great illusion” is mostly working for them.

Most people are too busy or disillusioned to see what’s happening with our mass media or to search out honest, independent journalism. They read a few of the intentionally inaccurate headlines or watch the corporate evening news, unaware that they are getting a very warped picture of reality. Daily, we are being influenced, shaped, persuaded, and manipulated much more than we realise. It’s insidious by design. We are putty to the powerful of the world. And that won’t be covered in the news.

This is a critical issue that needs addressing at this moment, in my humble opinion. And we can actually do something about it. Step one is awareness. We need to spread the word, make people more aware of the deception that’s taking place, as well as the motives behind it. Step two is that we need to build our critical thinking skills (our superpower!) and media literacy skills. And step three is we need to get informed with good, independent media. We need to follow and support real journalism.

I plan to dive into these steps a bit more in the second part of this post, coming soon. In the meantime, please check out a few of my sources for great journalism, links below. Stay informed, speak out, and join a community because silence will not buy us safety.

Wishing you a new year that is safe, conscientious, and inspired!
